About Beltrami
Humane Society
1. No, we only take cats
and dogs at our facility. We do not accept
birds, rabbits, reptiles or other creatures.
2. We house 90 cat kennels
and 54 dog kennels. We can only take the
number of animals that space allows. This
goes according to our vacancies at the shelter
on any given day. We do not take biters,
dogs with kennel rage or feral cats i.e.
animals that cannot be handled safely. back
to top
3. A "No Kill Shelter"
means that once an animal gets through our
doors, it is not euthanized unless it is
found terminal, or has come in maimed or
injured and has no chance of survival. At
the time, it is humanely euthanized to prevent
suffering. back to top
4. When we receive an
animal, it goes through an " in process
procedure" which includes, completion
of paperwork, an evaluation, vaccinations
and kennel placement. A new animal is generally
held for 7 days prior to being placed up
for adoption. At that time, they are watched
for sickness, or perhaps an owner may come
to reclaim a lost animal brought to our
shelter. back to top
5. We are highly commited
to networking with other area agencies and
or communities to find the best placement
for our animals. back to

If you find an
Animal, what should you do?
1. If you find an abandoned
or stray animal, you can call our facility
first to see if we have enough space to
take this animal. Other options are to call
your local animal control officer or police
department to pick up this animal or report
it as being lost, run a free lost or found
ad in your local newspaper, or finally,
take care of and find a home for this animal
on your own. back to top
2. If you are unable to
take care of your animals any more, you
can call us to see what our space availability
is to take your animal (cost is a $50.00
surrender fee per animal), talk to your
local Vet regarding options with your animal
or find a new home on your own. It is ILLEGAL
to abandon an animal at any time, you will
be prosecuted if found guilty in this act.
3. If you find an injured
animal, call your Vet. We do not have an
"onsite Vet" or equipment to treat
an injured animal. back to
