Society in Desperate Need In 2007, our shelter
adopted out 195 dogs and 198 cats. We had
45 surrendered dogs, 39 surrendered cats.
107 stray dogs and cats were brought to the
shelter for care and rehabilitation. The number
of animals we had to turn away due to the
fact that we were “full to capacity”
was 772 dogs/cats and 1130 puppies/kittens.
The cost of sheltering these animals is high and
the sources of revenue are limited. The
most current winter months with snowfall
and below zero cold temperatures have raised
costs in shelter operations, and lowered
the number of animal adoptions for our shelter.
Our supply costs have risen in every area
from pet food and electricity to veterinary/medical
expenses.
The
Beltrami Humane Society desperately needs
financial support through membership, donations
and fundraisers to help meet the costs of
caring for these surrendered, abandoned
and stray animals in our Bemidji area.
In order to keep our doors
open and to run smooth operations enabling
us to meet our financial obligations to
vendors, veterinarians and operating costs,
we must adopt 8 to 10 animals per day. Our
shelter is one of the premier shelters in
the State.
